Fausto J. Rodriguez, MD

Dr. Fausto Rodriguez is a Professor of Clinical Pathology and the Director of Neuropathology in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. Dr. Rodriguez received his medical degree from the University of Missouri School of Medicine in 2002. He did his residency and fellowship at the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and was board certified in Neuropathology in 2007. He is Professor of Clinical Pathology and Director of Neuropathology in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine in the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA.

Dr. Rodriguez’s work and research interests focus on the pathology of brain, ocular and peripheral nerve tumors, and the identification of novel markers for diagnosis and treatment of patients afflicted by them. He applies his expertise in routine and novel ancillary techniques, including histopathology, immunohistochemistry, in situ hybridization, mass spectrometry, and high throughput sequencing technologies, to the characterization of a variety of in vitro and in vivo models of primary tumors of brain and peripheral nerve. He has contributed chapters to various WHO classifications,  including the upcoming WHO Classification CNS, pediatric, soft tissue and head and neck tumors, and he has worked with tissue banks at Johns Hopkins Hospital and at UCLA. His laboratory has worked in the past decade to identify diagnostic, prognostic, and therapeutic biomarkers and targets of nervous system tumors developing in children and patients with inherited tumor syndromes, particularly neurofibromatosis type 1.
