Honoring Her Mom

Young cancer supporter Chelsea S

In October, 2017, Chelsea's mom, Dameka, was diagnosed with stage 2/3 Breast Cancer, requiring a double mastectomy and the removal of 10 lymph nodes. She had 6 rounds of chemotherapy, followed by 35 days of radiation. Dameka's family credits her recovery to her amazing team of UCLA Health caregivers, so on the anniversary of Dameka's cancer-free diagnosis, Chelsea wanted to help raise funds for crucial breast cancer research.  Chelsea went to her principal and got permission to hold a "classroom challenge", asking her classmates to see which classroom could raise the most funds for the UCLA Jonsson Cancer Center Foundation.  She was so inspired by the generosity of her friends and classmates, she hopes to make it a yearly event!
