Organic chemist named the UC Presidential Chair in Medicinal Chemistry

Michael Jung, UCLA distinguished professor of chemistry and biochemistry and UCLA Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center member, has been named the University of California Presidential Chair in Medicinal Chemistry.

Presidential chairs are created by the chancellor’s office and approved by the Office of the President to honor UCLA’s most accomplished faculty. This position recognizes Jung for the contributions he has made in the areas of research, teaching and service.

While at UCLA, Jung has contributed to the development of drugs to treat prostate cancer by developing new molecules that can be used in medicinal treatment. Jung is the recipient of numerous awards and honors, including the UCLA Distinguished Teaching Award, the Arthur C. Cope Scholar Award and the Glenn T. Seaborg Award.
