Presented by
Dorthe Shaue, MD
Adjunct Associate Professor, Department of Radiation Oncology
Most of Dr. Dorthe Schaue's research focuses on tumor-specific immune responses following radiation therapy in mice and men. The idea is that radiation appears to shape the immune balance. Although often considered to be immunosuppressive, radiation therapy can in fact drive anti-tumor immune reactivity in a dose-dependent fashion, acting either directly or through danger signaling pathways. Ultimately, Schaue's goal is to tune the radiation response to immunotherapeutic approaches in order to maximize the interaction and improve outcome.
Sponsored by the UCLA Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center Tumor Immunology program.
