Breast Cancer 2019
We are experiencing an an explosion of new treatment options for both early and advanced breast cancer. While inspiring, the multitude of options can be overwhelming. It is easy to get lost in a sea of medical language, making it difficult for a patient to choose the right treatment for her.
Breast cancer is not one disease and there is no “one size fits all” approach. An effective treatment plan must be personalized, to both the individual and to her specific type of breast cancer. Dr. Rena Callahan reviews breast cancer treatment then, now, and in the future in a way that is easy to understand so that patients and their families are armed with information to ensure they have the most current and effective treatment plan.
Dr. Rena Callahan is a hematologist-oncologist who practices in Santa Monica and Santa Clarita. She is active in the breast cancer research and treatment program and also specializes in gynecologic malignancies. She is board certified in hematology and medical oncology and is also an assistant clinical professor of medicine at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA.
Dr. Callahan is dedicated to providing patient-centered care, and including her patients in clinical decision making so that their individual goals are met. She has a unique interest in the evolving treatment of breast cancer, and how complementary therapies, such as meditation, yoga, and reiki can be integrated with Western evidence-based medicine.
Receiving her medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, Dr. Callahan graduated Alpha Omega Alpha, with high honors. She completed her internal medicine and hematology/oncology training at UCLA. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in biology from Yale University.
Dr. Callahan has spoken about the evolving treatment of breast cancer at both local and national meetings.
