Hematologic Cancers—Diagnosis and Treatment in 2019
One person in the USA is diagnosed with a blood cancer approximately every three minutes, and an estimated combined total of over 174,000 people in the U.S. are expected to have been diagnosed with leukemia, lymphoma or myeloma in 2018. New cases of leukemia, lymphoma, and myeloma are expected to account for 10 percent of the estimated new cancer cases diagnosed in the U.S. in 2018.
In this lecture, Dr. Herbert Eradat discusses the different types of Leukemias and Lymphomas, standard treatment approaches, and the expanding novel therapeutics for these diseases, including CAR-T cell and bone Marrow Trasplant. Research is rapidly evolving as we learn more about the biology of each type of leukemia and Dr. Eradat will highlight several new, exciting therapies currently in clinical trials.
Herbert Eradat, M.D., Clinical Assistant Professor, Department of Hematology/Oncology and member of the JCCC Signal Transduction and Therapeutics Program, specializes in the treatment of hematologic malignancies. Dr. Eradat has special expertise in Leukemias and Lymphomas. He is the Director of the program in Chronic Lymphocytic leukemia and Waldenstroms Macroglobulinemia. He is a Lymphoma specialist and has expertise in new immunotherapy approaches to treatment of these cancers. He is also has expertise in Bone Marrow Transplantation and CAR-T cell therapy. Herbert is a survivor of ALL and has intimate understanding and perspective on the battle that patients must endure in treatment and in survivorship.
